Security researcher Charlie Miller from Accuvant has found a flaw in Apple’s App Store, demonstrating how it’s possible to create a malicious application that is accepted into the store.
Although all apps need to pass Apple’s review process, Mr Miller created a ‘proof of concept’ app that appeared benign but was able to steal data after receiving an online update.

Apple has been granted a patent that covers the ‘unlocking’ of a smartphone screen by sliding a finger across the display or entering a pattern.

comScore has published research from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom that shows smartphones, tablets and other non-computer web-enabled devices drove 4.6% of total digital traffic in August.

ABI Research has calculated that Android overtook iOS in Q2 2011 to have the largest market share for mobile application downloads.
It says 44% of downloaded apps were for Android devices, compared with 31% for Apple’s iOS. However, the average Apple user still downloads more apps than the average Android customer.

Apple says it’s sold over four million units of the new iPhone 4S within three days of its launch on 14th October.
In addition, more than 25 million customers are now using iOS 5, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, and more than 20 million people have signed up for the free iCloud storage service.
