EE quarterly results show regulation pushing revenue down

EE (formerly Everything Everywhere) has published its third quarter financial results for 2012.

Service revenue was down 3% year-on-year to £1.496 billion, although the company says this would have been a 3.1% increase without the effect of changes to mobile termination rate and roaming regulations.

T-Mobile unlimited texts 'forever' don't breach advertising rules

The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that a TV advertisement and web page promoting a T-Mobile offer for “unlimited free texts forever” didn’t breach UK advertising regulations.

Two people who complained about the pay as you go offer didn’t believe it really would be available indefinitely.

Number of 7-inch tablets will double this year, thanks to the new iPad mini

The new iPad mini will help the market for 7-inch tablet devices to double in 2012 and 2013, according figures from research business IHS iSuppli. It says last year’s total sales figure of 17 million units will increase by around 100% in 2012 to 34 million units - and will then almost double again next year to 67 million tablets.

Tablets with a display size between 7 and 8 inches are expected to account for 28% of all this year’s tablet sales.

Completion of analogue TV switchover means the UK is ready for its 4G mobile auction

Ofcom says the UK has now switched from analogue to digital terrestrial television, such as the Freeview and Top Up TV services.

It means the former analogue TV spectrum is free to be used for 4G mobile data services. This so-called ‘Digital Dividend’ is due to be auctioned in a few months’ time.
