Market research company GfK Retail and Technology says Android’s share of European smartphone sales quadrupled in 2010.
At the start of the year Android accounted for 5% of total European sales; by the end of the year it was in over 25% of all smartphones sold.

New EU roaming regulation isn’t having much effect on the mobile usage habits of British consumers when they’re abroad, according to new research conducted on behalf of mobile roaming company MACH.
Over half of mobile users said they were aware of the rules regarding roaming, yet three-quarters of these said the rules made no difference to how they used their mobile phone when travelling abroad.

Visa Europe and Monitise plc have signed an agreement to develop and supply mobile payments services for banks and other financial institutions across Europe.
Monitise will work as an ‘advanced development engine’ for Visa Europe, enabling it to provide member banks with a market-ready mobile payments service in Europe.

Visa Europe and Wireless Dynamics have developed a mobile payment solution that’ll enable customers to use an iPhone for contactless payments.
It’s based on the Wireless Dynamics iCarte accessory, which will be supplied by participating banks and mobile operators.
