EE launches a 'micro network' service to boost coverage in rural communities

EE has started introducing ‘micro network’ technology that can provide mobile coverage to remote areas.

However, unlike rival services - such as Vodafone’s Open Sure Signal - the EE rural micro network solution doesn’t require a broadband connection. Instead, it links to the main network wirelessly.

676 million 4G LTE mobile phones to be shipped next year

There’ll be 676 million 4G LTE handsets shipped worldwide in 2015, according to new figures from ABI Research.

That’s an increase of 204 million units from this year.

New CEO for mobile ticket specialist Masabi as co-founder Ben Whitaker becomes Head of Innovation

Mobile ticket and payment specialist Masabi has appointed Brian Zanghi as its Chief Executive Officer and President. He replaces co-founder Ben Whitaker, who will remain with the company as its new Head of Innovation.

Masabi is best known for the mobile ticketing solution it supplies to railways in the UK and the USA.

GSMA warns that UK national roaming could adversely affect service, impede law enforcement and delay the roll-out of 4G services

The GSMA has published a response to the UK government’s suggestion that ‘national roaming’ could be mandated to reduce areas of poor mobile phone coverage.

A consultation period was launched on 5th November and ended yesterday.
