Sony to launch PlayStation Mobile this autumn

Sony Computer Entertainment says it’ll start the full-scale launch of PlayStation Mobile in the autumn.

The service, previously named PlayStation Suite, will bring Sony PlayStation games to a variety of mobile devices. This initial launch will include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, the UK and the USA.

LG passes milestone of five million 4G LTE smartphones

Although 4G LTE phones haven’t yet been given a UK launch, they’re selling well abroad.

LG Electronics has just passed global sales of five million LTE smartphones, having sold a million in July alone. The company’s first LTE smartphone - the Revolution - was released in the USA last May, with the worldwide range now having expanded into double figures.

Motorola cuts jobs, Digia acquires Qt and Starbucks partners with Square

Almost half of UK consumers are influenced by mobile advertising

New research from independent mobile advertising network InMobi shows that UK consumers are increasingly being influenced via their mobile devices. The company’s quarterly UK Mobile Media Consumption Report reveals that UK mobile web users consume 9 hours of media a day and spend 2.5 hours on their mobile device.

Mobile advertising influences 48% of consumers on their purchasing decisions: the same as PC-based ads and just behind TV advertising.

T-Mobile UK drops smartphone tethering from 'The Full Monty' tariff

In February T-Mobile UK launched a new tariff that allowed customers to make unlimited calls, send unlimited texts, and use the mobile internet as much as they wanted without any ‘fair use’ restrictions.

It was called The Full Monty and one of the notable benefits was the ability to ‘tether’ a smartphone via WiFi to a laptop or tablet computer for internet browsing and downloading.
