The death of a man in India last week is being blamed on his mobile phone by many people, although a lightning strike is also being suggested as the cause. Gopal Gujjar died after taking cattle to graze near in the village of Kota. His death wasn't witnessed; he was found dead the following day, having suffered burns to his head. His shattered mobile phone was discovered nearby.

Chinese mobile manufacturer ZTE Corporation has announced interim financial results for the first half of 2010. Operating revenue increased by 10.9% year-on-year to $4.524 billion (around £2.9 billion), with almost a fifth of this coming from European and US markets.

HP has reported quarterly results that show net revenue up 11.4% year-on-year to $30.7 billion for the last full quarter that former CEO Mark Hurd was in charge.

Mobile analytics company Motally is being acquired by Nokia, with the deal expected to be concluded in the autumn. Nokia says it plans to continue serving Motally's existing customer base while adapting the company's tracking and reporting service for Qt, Symbian, Meego and Java developers.

In January this year, Apple acquired mobile advertising business Quattro Wireless. It's believed Apple paid around $275 million, although an official figure was never reported. At the time Quattro said there'd be no changes to its services in the short-term.
