Ofcom has published its first research into the consumer experience of UK mobile broadband services since the 4G auction last year. The regulator’s own engineers conducted around 210,000 tests of 3G and 4G services on smartphones in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Manchester between March and June 2014.
Download speed, upload speed, web page loading times and latency were all measured.

Microsoft has announced a new Windows Phone smartphone that’s the first Lumia device without ‘Nokia’ branding.
The Microsoft Lumia 535, which is available in single SIM and dual SIM versions, is expected to cost just €110 excl. VAT (around £103 incl. VAT) when it goes on sale this month.

Apple has introduced an online process for deregistering from its iMessage service if customers no longer have an iPhone.
Although users can choose to deactivate Apple iMessage from the settings on their iPhone, some people have been unable to switch iMessage off if they’ve removed their SIM card and have adopted a different smartphone platform.
