O2 UK has announced a new mobile payment initiative using the O2 Wallet brand. It’s a mobile application that allows customers to send money from an existing debit or credit card to individuals or to retailers.
NFC payments are expected to be added as an option in the future.

The UK Health Protection Agency’s independent Advisory Group on Non-Ionising Radiation (AGNIR) says there’s still no convincing evidence that mobile phone technologies cause adverse effects on human health.
The team looked at the scientific evidence on exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF fields), which includes mobile phone technologies, WiFi, television and radio transmitters.

Virgin Media’s results for the quarter ended 31st March 2012 show revenue up 2.4% to £1.0 billion and net income up to £7 million.
Mobile revenue was up 1.2% to £139 million, with contract phone revenue accounting for most of this.

Ericsson’s quarterly results show net income increasing 116% year-on-year from 4.1 billion krona in Q1 2011 to 8.8 billion krona this year, although the company’s sale of its share in Sony Ericsson accounted for most of this.
Sales decreased by 4% year-on-year.

Chinese telecom manufacturer ZTE Corporation has announced its results for the financial quarter that ended 31st March 2012.
Operating revenue was up 29.46% year-on-year to $2.96 billion, while net profit was up 23.85% to $22.99 million.
