By 2016, more than half of all tablets are expected to be low-cost devices

The ‘media tablet’ market has grown out of almost nothing during the past three years, with more than 220 tablets now on the market worldwide.

However, although the Apple iPad currently leads the market, a new report says its share will suffer because of new lower-cost tablets with smaller displays.

Orange tops latest Ofcom mobile complaints list

Ofcom has published the fourth edition of its quarterly UK telecoms complaints data. The report covers the final three months of 2011.

As with previous periods, overall mobile complaint levels were much lower than for fixed-line telephones and fixed broadband services. For the Q4 2011 period, Ofcom received the fewest complaints about O2 and the most complaints about Orange.

Europeans are reading more news on their smartphones

A new research report from comScore shows that the number of Europeans accessing news on their smartphones has risen by 74% in the past year.

Its study of ‘mobile news’ access in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom revealed that almost 37% of all smartphone users looked at online news via an app or web browser, an increase of 74% over the past year.

New product overtakes old product: why the surprise?

Sometimes I’m a simple soul. This is one of those occasions. I simply don’t get what all the fuss is about.

Sales of Windows Phone 7 smartphones have overtaken Symbian device sales in Great Britain for the first time ever. Yes, the new heavily-promoted mobile phones from Nokia are more popular with consumers and retailers than those using the obsolescent Symbian OS. Windows Phone 7 now has 2.5% of the British smartphone market, compared with 2.4% for Symbian.
