Samsung working with Toyota to create in-car smartphone solution

Samsung Electronics has announced a partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation that’ll help Samsung’s smartphones connect with Toyota’s in-vehicle entertainment systems.

The project is called Samsung Car Mode Application and it’ll use smartphone-based voice controls for navigation, location-based services and other functions.

DataWind named as UK's most innovative company

DataWind has been named as the UK’s Most Innovative Mobile Company, winning the Smart UK project competition at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona.

The competition, which was run in association with UKTI, had attracted almost 80 entries. In today’s final judging, DataWind beat blippar, P2i and QRpedia to the prize.

Global Mobile Awards 2012: the winners

As we mentioned in today’s podcast, the winners of the 17th Annual Global Mobile Awards were revealed last night.

Comedian and songwriter Tim Minchin presented the awards and was joined on stage by Cherie Blair, champion of the GSMA’s mWomen programme.

Windows 8 – 2012’s Biggest Mobile Milestone

James Rosewell writes:

Microsoft’s Windows 8 announcement today is as significant to the mobile industry as Apple’s iPad launch 2 years ago. Windows 8 will work on tablets, ultra books, desktops, laptops and 82” big screens. Not only that but it’ll support touch on all these devices.

“We're in a world where tablets are about touch, and PCs are about keyboard. We're changing those assumptions” Steven Sinofsky President, Windows and Windows Live Division says.
