Apple has been granted a patent that covers the ‘unlocking’ of a smartphone screen by sliding a finger across the display or entering a pattern.

Sony Corporation and Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson have agreed to make the Sony Ericsson mobile phone business a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony. Sony is paying 1.05 billion Euro for Ericsson’s 50% share.
As well as helping Sony integrate smartphones into its product portfolio, it’ll also give Sony a handful of wireless technology patents.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 smartphones have been announced as the first SIM-based NFC smartphones to be certified by MasterCard Worldwide as PayPass-approved devices.
It means that any bank issuing MasterCard PayPass credit or debit cards will be able to deploy MasterCard PayPass-enabled accounts to the SIM card of these smartphones.
