An introduction to mobile financial services with Gemalto

Mobile banking. eBanking. Mobile money. m-payments. They’re all terms that are often thrown around interchangeably (and incorrectly) when talking about mobile financial services.

To help understand more about the difference facets of mobile commerce - from security concerns through to current implementation and future innovations - I headed for Gemalto’s recent Innovation Day at the Museum of London. I started by talking to Howard Berg, senior vice president at Gemalto, and admitted to him that I still thought of Gemalto as being a SIM card and smartcard manufacturer rather than the digital security company it’s become.

Nokia reveals quarterly loss ahead of Windows Phone launch

Handset manufacturer Nokia, which is expected to reveal its first Windows Phone devices at Nokia World in London next week, has published financial results for the third quarter of 2011.

Overall net sales fell to 8.98 billion Euro, down 13% on the previous year, with the company making a loss for the quarter.

Over a quarter of American adults use their mobiles for health information

Manhattan Research has found that 26% of adults in the USA have used their mobile phones for health information or health-related tools in the past 12 months.

Its new Cybercitizen Health U.S. 2011 study, which surveyed over eight thousand adults, shows that the ‘mobile health population’ has more than doubled in the last 12 months. In 2010, just 12% of consumers conducted health activities on their mobile phones.

eBay quarterly results show the increasing value of mobile transactions

eBay has reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2011.

Revenue was up 32% year-on-year to $3.0 billion (£2.6 billion), with net income up to $490.5 million.
