Apple says demand for its new iPhone and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones has exceeded the anticipated demand.

Orders for over four million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets were placed within 24 hours last Friday, which means some customers won’t receive their new phones until October.

UK mobile phone specialist Phones 4u and a number of its associated businesses - including MVNO Life Mobile - have gone into administration today.

The company says it follows the decisions of Vodafone and then EE not to renew their network agreements, which represented over 90% of all connections it made.

It reports that 81% of the European population has a mobile phone, with 42% owning smartphones. The overall figures for EMEA are 65% mobile penetration and 25% with a smartphone.
