O2 says Ofcom 4G auction is illegal

O2 has publicised its response to Ofcom's proposals for auctioning the UK radio spectrum that'll be used for 4G LTE mobile services. Ofcom is proposing 'caps' to prevent any single bidder gaining a large amount of spectrum, along with 'floors' of minimum ownership.

In a statement, O2 said "we believe that the proposed spectrum floors are a state aid and are therefore illegal under EU law."

Arqiva contract breached by Everything Everywhere merger, says report

Mobile News reports that network infrastructure firm Arqiva has won a High Court action against Everything Everywhere.

It says the Technology and Construction Court has ruled Everything Everywhere's attempt to combine the Orange and T-Mobile UK networks breaches contracts with Arqiva. Everything Everywhere is said to be appealing against the judgement.

PayPal hits Google with lawsuit

PayPal has filed a lawsuit against Google and two former PayPal employees who now work there.

It's claiming the misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of contract and a number of other complaints.

Consumers benefit as European telecoms law changes

As we've previously reported and also mentioned in today's podcast, a number of new European telecoms regulations come into force today. Ofcom has issues a statement that explains how these will affect the UK.

The changes include shorter contract terms, compensation for delays to number porting and improved access to emergency services for disabled consumers.
