UK mobile phone customers are happier with service in 2011

The latest J.D. Power and Associates 2011 UK Mobile Phone Customer Satisfaction Study shows that mobile phone customers in the UK are more satisfied with call quality, coverage and cost of service than they were in 2010.

Customer satisfaction with pre-pay and pay monthly price plans were measured for the UK's major mobile networks, covering everything from call quality and coverage to tariff costs, customer service and the mobile phone itself.

New person-to-person mobile money transfer service launched in USA

Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo have announced a new partnership called clearXchange.

It enables customers to send money from a current account to someone else simply by entering their mobile phone number or email address. There’s no need to set up a separate account or to provide a sort code.

Ofcom mobile broadband research shows average UK download speed of 1.5Mbps

Ofcom has published its first-ever research into the performance of mobile broadband across the UK.

It's looked at dongles and datacards rather than smartphones, discovering that 17% of UK households use mobile broadband. Around 7% of households use mobile broadband as their only internet access; a figure that's more than doubled since 2009.

Consumers benefit as European telecoms law changes

As we've previously reported and also mentioned in today's podcast, a number of new European telecoms regulations come into force today. Ofcom has issues a statement that explains how these will affect the UK.

The changes include shorter contract terms, compensation for delays to number porting and improved access to emergency services for disabled consumers.
