This week my lovely wife made a rare error in leaving her mobile phone behind when she left the house. Fortunately I was working at home, so I was able to answer her calls and relay her messages. But it got me thinking. What were the alternatives?

In five years, services will generate more SMS revenue than people

A new report from Juniper Research forecasts that revenue from text messages sent to or from an application - so-called Application-to-Person or A2P SMS - will exceed $70 billion within five years.

In addition, worldwide revenue from A2P messages will overtake that of person-to-person texting in 2016.

Telefonica drops 'O2' from company name - but UK branding remains

The official company name for O2 - Telefónica O2 UK Limited - has been changed, as have the names of the other operating businesses within Telefónica Europe.

In line with the company's global strategy of "One Team One Telefónica", the O2 part has been dropped and it'll now be Telefónica UK.

Samsung signs David Beckham for Olympic Games

Samsung Electronics has announced an agreement that'll see footballer David Beckham becoming its global brand ambassador for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The partnership will see David Beckham appearing in advertising and public relations campaigns that promote Samsung and emphasise its role as Worldwide Olympic Partner for Wireless Communications Equipment.

Nokia reorganisation, iPhone tracking, mobile payments and much more
