Registering for the UK Telephone Preference Service cuts unwanted phone calls by about a third, says Ofcom

New research published by UK communications regulator Ofcom shows that signing up to the Telephone Preference Service reduces the number of unsolicited ‘live’ marketing or sales calls by around a third.

Organisations are legally required to ensure they don’t call numbers registered on the TPS unless they have the consumer’s consent to contact them.

BlackBerry BES10 device management solution is now available as a hosted service

BlackBerry has announced that its BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10) device management solution is now available as a hosted service through third-party partners.

It means businesses no longer need to run BES10 on their own IT equipment.

Quarterly figures from Nokia Corporation reveal bigger cash pot after Microsoft deal

Nokia Corporation has published interim financial results for the second quarter of 2014.

It covers the period in which Nokia sold most of its Devices & Services business to Microsoft, with much of the €5 billion cash from the proceeds making its way into the Q2 figures.

Microsoft announces its cheapest Windows Phone Lumia smartphone ever

Microsoft’s Devices Group, which recently learned it was to lose thousands of jobs, has announced a new low-cost Windows Phone smartphone.

The Lumia 530 is described by Microsoft as “the most affordable Lumia to date” and will go on same next month for an estimated retail price of €85 before taxes and subsidies (£67 ex.VAT; £81 incl. VAT).
