Figures from the International Data Corporation show that worldwide smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2013 reached a new record for the second consecutive month.
Total smartphone shipments were up 38.8% year-on-year and up 9% from the previous quarter to 258.4 million devices.

LG Electronics has launched a new Android smartphone with a display that curves from top to bottom, following the shape of the user’s face.
It follows the announcement of Samsung’s Galaxy Round handset, which has a curve along the vertical axis. Both devices are being launched in South Korea.

LG Electronics has reported quarterly results that show the mobile communications part of its business moving from profit into loss for the first time since the same quarter last year.
Overall profit for the company was up year-on-year to 218 billion South Korean Won (£127 million), although down from the previous quarter.
