Roaming competitors to merge: Syniverse agrees to acquire MACH

Syniverse, which provides roaming, messaging and networking services to more than 900 mobile operators worldwide, has agreed to acquire MACH in a deal worth around €550 million (£440 million).

Luxembourg-based MACH offers similar services to a customer base of around 650 operators.

Google launches indoor maps for Android in the UK

Google has introduced indoor maps for a number of UK venues on its Android map application.

More than 40 venues in the UK are already available, including museums, shops, railway stations and airports. Building owners can upload their own floor plans for inclusion in future updates.

Spending on ads within mobile applications will hit £4.5 billion by 2015

Juniper Research says in-app advertising spend across all mobile devices will reach $7.1 billion (£4.5 billion) by 2015.

That’s almost three times this year’s anticipated figure of $2.4 billion.

Forthcoming Mozilla Firefox mobile OS will be used in Alcatel and ZTE smartphones

Mozilla, the non-profit organisation behind the Firefox web browser, has said it’ll use the ‘Firefox’ brand for its forthcoming HTML5-based mobile operating system. A number of major mobile network operators have already expressed their support for the project.

TCL Communication Technology (which uses the Alcatel One Touch brand) and ZTE plan to produce the first Firefox OS devices.
