It was called SYMBEOSE - standing for 'Symbian – the Embedded Operating System for Europe' - and it's now been closed down without a single Euro being spent by the European Union.

Nokia has announced plans to "align its global workforce" in order to deliver on its new strategy, which involves a partnership with Microsoft.
Around 4,000 employees are expected to leave the company by the end of next year, with the majority of reductions in Denmark, Finland and the UK. In addition, about 3,000 employees involved with Symbian will be transferred to Accenture.

As well as confirming its agreement with Microsoft is now signed, Nokia has also released its first quarter 2011 interim report today.
Net sales were up 9% year-on-year but down 18% on the previous quarter to 10.4 billion Euro (around £9.1 billion).
