Google Maps for mobile, which launched less than five years ago, is now used by more than 100 million people a month. The figure was revealed by Vic Gundotra, Google's Vice President of Engineering, in a blog post yesterday.

In January this year, Apple acquired mobile advertising business Quattro Wireless. It's believed Apple paid around $275 million, although an official figure was never reported. At the time Quattro said there'd be no changes to its services in the short-term.

Computing company Intel is to acquire anti-virus company McAfee in a deal that's been unanimously approved by both boards of directors. McAfee will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Intel, reporting into Intel’s Software and Services Group.

Yesterday morning City of London Police arrested nine people as part of an investigation into a suspected fraud case that's believed to have involved premium-rate international phone numbers being called on mobile phones. Officers also seized up to £15,000 worth of mobile phones along with hundreds of SIM cards and fake documents. The raids took place after an investigation in partnership with O2.

Social network Facebook has launched a mobile location service called Facebook Places. It enables users to 'check in' to a location using their mobile phone; this check-in then appears on their Facebook status. Facebook users at a venue can also choose to have their presence shared with other visitors if they wish.
