Internet privacy business Connect In Private has announced a new secure email and browsing application for BlackBerry smartphones.
The app, with an associated service that costs $120 per year, gives BlackBerry users an email account and a web browser that accesses the internet from behind CIP’s own secure servers. When the user closes the application, no evidence of email or surfing remains on the smartphone other than any attachments they’ve chosen to save.
The app runs outside RIM’s own BlackBerry network, providing a backup in the event of RIM network outages.
Bill Montgomery, CEO of Connect In Private, said “A company that deploys our app for all its BlackBerry users can continue operating during RIM network downtime. Every business which relies on BlackBerry and has a mobile workforce relies on secure, reliable communications and due to the recent four day RIM service outage in October most businesses are now acutely aware of their exposure to that risk.”
The CIP application can run on BlackBerry OS 5, OS 6 and OS 7.
