A new logo for Microsoft

Microsoft has updated its company logo for the first time in 25 years, moving away from the old italic-style logo. The new logo, which will be used for the Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 operating systems when they’re launched later this year, utilises the Segoe font that’s already featured on newer Microsoft products and marketing communications.

Jeff Hansen, Microsoft’s General Manager for Brand Strategy, made the announcement in a blog post. He said “The Microsoft brand is about much more than logos or product names. We are lucky to play a role in the lives of more than a billion people every day. The ways people experience our products are our most important “brand impressions”. That’s why the new Microsoft logo takes its inspiration from our product design principles while drawing upon the heritage of our brand values, fonts and colors.”

The new Microsoft logo is already on Microsoft.com and is in Microsoft’s Boston, University Village Seattle and Bellevue retail stores. It’ll be rolled out across all Microsoft stores and marketing in the next few months.
