Bambuser proclaims a 'social media triumph' for streamed London tour

Live mobile broadcasting service Bambuser has described the result of Hans Eriksson’s 24-hour video streaming challenge as a ‘social media triumph’. Thousands of online contributors from more than two dozen countries guided the company’s Executive Chairman during his 24 hour broadcast last week.

Hans said “We began the Bambuser Challenge as a way of testing the practicalities of live broadcasting from a mobile phone while moving around a city like London. Technically it was a great success, as we managed to keep broadcasting throughout the Challenge. But I have to admit I’m a little taken back at the patchy 3G network that exists in central London.”

Anyone visiting the Bambuser Challenge website could type a message that appeared on the screen of Hans’s phone, creating a crowd-sourced tourist journey that included Tony Blair’s house, a late night curry, a 3am rickshaw journey and a bicycle ride through the West End.

A standard iPhone 4 was used for the video streaming, along with several spare batteries, MiFi devices from sponsor Tep Wireless and a monopod.

We spoke to Hans Eriksson last Friday, just before he set off on his challenge. You can listen to the full interview on our website, via iTunes or by downloading the MP3 file.
