Bemilo launches parent-friendly UK mobile network

A new UK virtual mobile network is offering parents the ability to monitor and control their child’s mobile phone. Bemilo, which is running over the Vodafone network, will offer concerned parents the ability to check and restrict connections from their child’s SIM card. Unlike app-based solutions, the controls cannot be switched off by the user.

The Bemilo service costs £3.95 per month on a standard ‘prepay’ agreement, with a discount to £2.95 monthly for a year paid in advance. Calls cost from 10p per minute, while data is 25p per megabyte.

Parents can restrict calls to or from certain numbers, can read text messages and can prevent the phone from working outside certain times. All these controls cab be accessed remotely from an internet browser. Emergency calls are available at all times.

Bemilo is currently available online from bemilo.com and from Carphone Warehouse stores.

If you need a parental control for the iPhone/iPad, check out FREE McGruff SafeGuard.

McGruff "Take A Bite Out of Crime" is known in the USA for family safety since 1979.

They also have a Windows Parental Control system (www.GoMcGruff.com)
McGruff SafeGuard released a Child Safe Browser app that is a look-alike for Safari, but provides a parent with full control of the categories of websites that can be visited.

It also provides a summary of activity to the parent via email.

If you are looking for a complete solution to keep your children safe, I would recommend MobileMinder.

It costs about the same as Bemilo but has far more comprehensive features. MobileMinder does not give the parent access to all their kid's messages, just messages that contain words pertaining to cyberbullying or sexting. This way, I do not have to trawl through all of my children's messages, I am alerted if there is any unsuitable activity and my children do not feel like I don't trust them.

I can also receive alerts when my children arrive home after school so I know that they are ok.

There are also plenty of other benefits so check out www.mobileminder.com, a better product if you ask me!
