BuNGee aims for faster mobile broadband with amusing acronym

A new initiative named Beyond Next-Generation Mobile Broadband (BuNGee) was launched a few weeks ago. Its main objective is an increase in mobile network infrastructure capacity density to 1 Gigabit per second per square kilometre; ten times faster than 4G LTE and WiMAX technology currently promises.

Towards the end of the project, which is scheduled to finish in June 2012, the BuNGee group intends to demonstrate its achievements in Barcelona. The developed technologies will then be proposed as new standards for high capacity radio access networks.

The BuNGee consortium consists of European service providers, technology equipment vendors, universities and research organisations, with most of the funding coming from the European Commission.
