Chinese state television moves into mobile advertising

The mobile division of China Central Television says it’s “open for business” to potential advertisers. It’s partnered with mobile advertising provider 3rd Space to offer banner and video ads on its WAP portal and iPhone & Android apps.

China Central Television (CCTV) is the national TV station of the People’s Republic of China. It also runs a multi-media broadcasting platform that includes movies, newspapers and the internet – and has ambitions to become a global media network.

CCTV already attracts over 10 million unique visitors per day to its mobile internet portal and has seen over 3 million downloads of its iPhone app. The country’s Ministry of Information has forecast that over 150 million smartphones will be sold in China during 2011.

Warwick Hill, CEO of 3rd Space, said “With over 850 million mobile phone users in China, our agreement with CCTV positions 3rd Space as a leading company in the mobile advertising industry in China. We are working with a number of global brands to create innovative and engaging customer acquisition and retention strategies in China’s growing digital economy.”
