EE customers who’ve signed up for 4G service are now able to enjoy the same fast mobile data connections in France and Spain.
This 4G connectivity is expected to be rolled out to Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the USA by the Summer.
Customers on 4GEE Extra tariffs already receive unlimited roaming minutes and texts to certain countries as part of their contract, while a data roaming allowance in Europe costs from £3 for 100MB.
Most EE customers can take advantage of the new 4G roaming coverage from today, although this isn’t yet available to Corporate customers.
Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE, said “EE already has the biggest and fastest 4G network in the UK – now we’re also allowing our customers to stay connected on 4G when they’re abroad. Our customers will be the first to benefit in France and Spain today, with the most popular travel destinations to follow in the coming months. Whether it’s working on the move, social networking, using maps, or just finding a great place to eat in an unknown city, our customers will now benefit from the same superfast and reliable mobile experience at home and overseas.”
Plans to introduce 4G roaming in the UK for visitors from the USA were announced last year.
