Former Boston tram driver pleads guilty after 'text message' crash

Former ‘trolley bus’ driver Aiden Quinn has pleaded guilty to gross negligence following a May 2009 crash in Boston that injured more than 60 people. It’s alleged he was distracted by sending a text message from his mobile phone. The crash is said to have caused $10 million of damage.

Mr Quinn has been sentenced to two years probation and 100 hours of community service. He also lost his job. The area transport authority had already banned drivers from talking or texting on the job before the accident; it now prohibits them from even carrying a mobile phone.
