Free Skype WiFi launched in the UK and Ireland

Commercial WiFi specialist Wicoms and VoIP service Skype have launched a new WiFi proposition called Free Skype WiFi. It enables businesses in the UK and Ireland to offer free Skype-branded public WiFi to their customers. Businesses can choose a number of deals with pricing from £9.99+VAT per month plus a one-off £49+VAT for the router, although there’s a free one-month trial during October.

Consumers simply take advantage of any participating Free Skype WiFi location by logging in with a Skype ID and password. Customers without a free Skype ID can register quickly via email.

Skype already offers a chargeable public WiFi service, enabling customers to get online at over 1 million WiFi hotspots worldwide by paying per-minute with Skype credit.

Shadi Mahassel, Program Manager for Skype Access, said “Simplicity is at the heart of everything Skype does. We believe that internet access should be available to everyone in a simple and affordable way. Our partnership with Wicoms enhances our ability to make Skype universally accessible and expands on our WiFi strategy, which today provides paid WiFi access at over one million locations worldwide.”
