LG to debut new mass-market 4G smartphones at Mobile World Congress

LG’s pre-MWC announcements continue with news of a new mass-market 4G smartphone range.

The LG Optimus F Series will make its debut at Mobile World Congress next week, starting with the Optimus F5 and Optimus F7. Both are 4G LTE Android-powered devices “designed to bring a premium user experience and the speed of 4G LTE to a mass audience”.

The Optimus F5 has a 4.3-inch display, a 5 megapixel camera and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, while the Optimus F7 is equipped with a 4.7-inch HD display, an 8 megapixel camera and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. They’ll offer features that have previously been limited to LG’s premium phones, including QSlide - opening two full-screen apps at the same time - and ‘Live Zooming’ during vide playback.

It’s the Optimus F5 that’ll be available first, hitting European shops from Q2 2013, followed by the Optimus F7.

Dr Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said “LG continues to lead the industry with 4G LTE innovation and the Optimus F Series, a well-balanced an well-equipped 4G LTE smartphone for the mass market, embodies the best of our broad LTE patent portfolio and innovative UX features. With adoption of LTE expected to explode in 2013, we are sending a clear message to consumers with the Optimus F Series that LTE isn’t just for heavy content users and techies anymore. It’s for everyone.”
