Mobile network EE to close 78 shops in the UK

UK 4G network operator EE (formerly Everything Everywhere) is reported to be closing 11% of its retail stores within the next few months, according to a report in Mobile News. 78 of the company’s 700 outlets are expected to shut before the end of April.

All of the company’s T-Mobile and Orange shops were rebranded last autumn, resulting in many towns having more than one EE premises. A number of those ‘duplicate’ stores are now being closed. The company is talking to store managers about alternative opportunities, although other shop-floor staff are being offered roles at nearby EE stores.

EE will still have the UK’s largest portfolio of network-owned stores, although Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U will both have more shops when the closure programme has ended.
