Mobile payments could be transformed by microSD cards

The latest study from ABI Research says microSD cards equipped with Near Field Communication technology, along with active and passive contactless stickers, will help change the landscape for many NFC vendors and supporters.

Its report says mobile handsets, computers and consumer electronics will help drive the shipment of NFC chips to approaching 300 million shipments in 2015.

Jonathan Collins, principal M2M analyst at ABI Research, said "Mobile handsets remain the key market for NFC but increasingly the potential of the technology is driving NFC into other devices and form factors. The potential to offer NFC to handsets with microSD slots is helping to change the mobile handset landscape for many NFC vendors and supporters."
