Nokia Belle update for Symbian phones available today

NokiaCustomers who have one of Nokia’s newer Symbian-based smartphones can update them to the Nokia Belle version of the operating system from today. The OS upgrade began shipping on a number of new phones in December.

Nokia Belle is available on the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia E6, Nokia X7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7 and Nokia Oro in the UK and a number of other countries. An upgrade for the Nokia 500 is expected in the next few weeks. It’s described as a major upgrade and requires the phone to be connected to a PC.

As well as delivering a new user interface, Nokia Belle interface also offers a number of new features including HD video recording and an enhanced web browser.

The news comes as reports Nokia has cancelled the development of all but one final new Symbian-based device. Last month Nokia admitted that Symbian sales were likely to be lower than expected.
