Nokia Belle update for Symbian phones available today

NokiaCustomers who have one of Nokia’s newer Symbian-based smartphones can update them to the Nokia Belle version of the operating system from today. The OS upgrade began shipping on a number of new phones in December.

Nokia Belle is available on the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia E6, Nokia X7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7 and Nokia Oro in the UK and a number of other countries. An upgrade for the Nokia 500 is expected in the next few weeks. It’s described as a major upgrade and requires the phone to be connected to a PC.

As well as delivering a new user interface, Nokia Belle interface also offers a number of new features including HD video recording and an enhanced web browser.

The news comes as TheRegister.co.uk reports Nokia has cancelled the development of all but one final new Symbian-based device. Last month Nokia admitted that Symbian sales were likely to be lower than expected.
