O2 has published the latest scores from its Eco rating scheme. Nokia’s C6-01 and E7-00 topped the list, both scoring 4.1 out of 5, followed by the Samsung Galaxy Mini, the Sony Ericsson X8 and the Nokia C7-02 - all with 4 points.
The Eco ratings were launched in August last year as part of O2’s Think Big sustainability programme. They cover 90% of phones sold by O2; each score combines the overall environmental impact of the device with the ethical performance of the manufacturer and the way the handset helps its user live a more sustainable life.
Simon Lee-Smith, O2’s Head of Devices, said “Although the environmental impact of a mobile phone may seem trivial when compared to say a car or fridge, when you consider the vast volumes of mobiles in circulation across the globe, their impact adds up. We know more and more customers want this level of product transparency and we’re very grateful to the handset manufacturers for their engagement with Eco rating.”
