Panasonic announces Android device with 1-inch 20 megapixel camera sensor

Panasonic has used the Photokina photography trade show in Germany as a stage to announce its new Panasonic DMC-CM1 device. It’s equipped with a 20 megapixel one-inch camera sensor, putting it on a similar level to standalone cameras, yet also runs Android 4.4 on a 2.3GHz quad-core chip and has a 4.7-inch HD screen.

The handset is 21mm deep and weighs 240g; substantially more than a conventional smartphone.

At the moment the company has only confirmed that it’ll be releasing the phone in France and Germany this year. Pricing is expected to be around €900 (around £712) SIM-free.
