RIM acquires digital content company NewBay

A couple of weeks after RIM was rumoured to be buying Dublin-based mobile tech company NewBay for around $100 million, the acquisition has been officially confirmed.

In a blog post, Alan Brenner - senior vice president for the BlackBerry Platform - said “We’re excited that the NewBay team will be bringing their expertise in cloud-based digital content services to the BlackBerry platform. NewBay’s LifeCache platform helps enable operators and device makers to deliver content across multiple, connected devices such as mobile phones, PCs and tablets.”

NewBay Software was founded in 2002 and provides ‘white label’ cloud-based content services to manufacturers and network operators, including the Orange Social Life social network aggregator for Everything Everywhere and O2’s BlueBook online contact storage.
