Monitise, Best Buy and Charles Dunstone create a mobile marketing and payments network

Mobile payment provider Monitise plc says it’s working with Best Buy Europe and Charles Dunstone to create a new project called the ‘Mobile Money Network’. It follows discussions between Monitise and The Carphone Warehouse last year.

The network expects to launch in 2011, offering a ‘one-stop shop’ for mobile services and for m-commerce ideas.

Charles Dunstone, who founded The Carphone Warehouse and is now chairman of Carphone Warehouse Group plc, said “Every year we see hundreds of exciting ideas in the space of mobile shopping, banking, payments and marketing, but what is required is a central, independent and trusted network to make it come alive. We believe we have the track record to play this role.”

Best Buy Europe will become the network’s first retail partner and will also make an investment in the venture.

The news came as AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless announced a US-based mobile commerce joint venture called Isis.
