The GSMA, the trade organisation that represents the worldwide mobile communications industry, has unveiled a European Mobile Manifesto that sets out how the mobile industry will help achieve key European Union objectives.
It says the mobile industry can boost economic performance, improve efficiencies, protect consumers and increase the use of green technology by working more closely with governments, education and health authorities and technology manufacturers.
The manifesto also asks the EU for more support in order to meet these aims, which form part of the ICT policy objectives of the European Commission.
Viviane Reding, the EU's Telecoms Commissioner, said "The manifesto gives a very good insight in the key role mobile will play in European society - if we take the right measures now". [Manifesto; press release]
