Three UK is reporting a six-fold increase in the amount of smartphone data on its network during New Year’s Eve 2011.
In a blog post, Nigel Field - Three’s Director of Devices - says the company recorded 14 Terabytes of data on 31st December 2010. On the same day in 2011, usage had increased to 80TB. This equates to almost 21 million MP3 tracks being downloaded in 24 hours.
The increase on New Year’s Day was slightly less, with 74TB used on 1st January 2012 compared to 14TB in 2011.
Voice and text usage also increased, although less dramatically. SMS levels grew from 36 million on New Year’s Eve 2010 to 46 million at the end of 2011, while calls went from 19 million to 21 million.
