WiFi platform provider Devicescape says Virgin Media has signed a contract for the supply of its WiFi service platform, which will make it easier for customers to connect to WiFi hotspots outside the house.

Two Devicescape services will be available to Virgin Media customers: Personal Curator, which simplifies connection to WiFi in the customer’s home, and Public Curator, which allows an automatic connection to quality-controlled hotspots throughout the UK.

Jamie Heywood, director of mobile at Virgin Media, said “We‘re always looking at new ways to ensure our customers have access to the best possible data connection, whether in home or on the go. Using Wi-Fi we know how much our customers value services like Virgin TV Anywhere so it’s important we’re able to deliver a seamless integrated experience when it comes to data connectivity.”

Devicescape currently manages a ‘curated virtual network’ of 20 million hotspots worldwide. It expects to have 1.1 million of these hotspot locations in the UK by 2017.
