Voddler announces Dolby-encoded video streaming service

Video-on-demand service provider Voddler has announced the world’s first movie streaming service for smartphones using Dolby Digital Plus audio. It’s currently available for a number of Nokia Symbian devices and is initially being offered in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

Dolby Digital Plus audio offers cinematic surround sound with Voddler’s streamed films.

Marcus Bäcklund, CEO of Voddler, said “Getting full-length movies direct to Nokia smartphones with true 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus surround sound is a huge step forward for mobile entertainment. We are delighted with the results from our close collaboration with the Dolby team. It adds a truly cinematic feel to enjoying the best Hollywood and European movies on your mobile device.”

Voddler has over one million registered customers in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

We spoke to Andy Dowell, Dolby’s Regional Director for Northern Europe, at Mobile World Congress. The full interview is on iTunes, on our RSS feed, on the home page of our website and via the Stitcher Radio application.
