Sundar Pichai, senior vice president in charge of Google’s products, has told an audience at Mobile World Congress that the search and advertising business is planning to launch a US-based virtual mobile network.
Rumours have previously suggested Google has been talking to Spring and T-Mobile about a possible partnership.

EE is reported to be discontinuing its Orange and T-Mobile tariffs for new connections and upgrades, according to Mobile News.
Although existing customers can continue with their Orange and T-Mobile deals, they’ll now need to move to an EE tariff if they want to upgrade.

Google has acquired the technology from mobile wallet company Softcard, which it will be combining with its Google Wallet service in the USA.
It means that customers buying an Android phone from AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless will have the Google Wallet NFC payment app pre-installed.

SIM card manufacturer Gemalto has published the results of an investigation into an alleged hacking operation by the UK’s GCHQ and the USA’s National Security Agency.
A report earlier this month - based on information from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden - claimed that both security agencies had jointly hacked into Gemalto’s network to steal SIM encryption keys. This would have enabled them to decrypt mobile phone calls without needing the cooperation of mobile networks.
