Quarterly results show smartphone sales boom at Everything Everywhere

Everything EverywhereThe latest quarterly financial results from Everything Everywhere reveal that 71% of ‘pay monthly’ customers now have smartphones; an increase of 14 percentage points from the Q1 2011 figure of 57%. An increase of 151,000 post-pay customers since the previous quarter, along with a drop of 494,000 prepay users, means that 49% of customers on Orange and T-Mobile UK networks currently have a post-pay contract.

Overall, service revenue fell by 2.5% year-on-year to £1.503 billion. Everything Everywhere says it would have seen a 2.9% increase if it hadn’t been for the cut in mobile termination rates. Data and messaging revenues were up 17% and now account for 45.5% of average revenue per user.

Olaf Swantee, Chief Executive Officer of Everything Everywhere, said “We are seeing improved underlying service revenues, driven by rapid data revenue growth, as we successfully upgrade customers to smartphones and higher value postpaid agreements. We continue to make major strides improving our current network experience such as better signal sharing and faster 3G data services, and we plan to start to introduce 4G LTE for the benefit of UK consumers and businesses by the end of the year, pending regulatory approval.”

The company also noted that 90% of new customers in the last quarter signed up for fixed-line broadband alongside mobile service.
