Motorola has launched two new smartphones and its Moto 360 watch. It’s the latest news in a busy week that’s also seen product announcements from Samsung, Sony and Microsoft.

The two new handsets are a new version of the 2013 flagship Moto X and the Moto G, which has a lower spec. Motorola’s new Moto X has a 5.2-inch Full HD display and is constructed with a curved metal frame, with optional wood and leather casing. It runs Android 4.4 on a 2.5GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor. Meanwhile, the Moto G has a 5-inch HD display.

Both phones are launching in the USA and Europe this month. US pricing is $499.99 SIM-free for the Moto X and $179.99 for the Moto G.

The Moto 360 smartwatch, which was first announced in March, runs on the Android Wear platform. UK availability hasn’t yet been confirmed for this. It links with Google Now and the user’s smartphone as well as incorporating a pedometer and heart rate monitor.

Other products announced at the same time include a small Bluetooth headset - the Moto Hint - and a portable battery pack that includes a phone and key finder.

ExclusiveI want to live in a world... where mobile tariffs are easy to compare

Mark Bridge writes:

Supermarkets. You either love ‘em or hate ‘em. Actually, that’s not true. Most of us seem to be happy enough with a half-price bottle of wine but less convinced about globalisation and supplier relationships.

But none of that’s bothering me today. Instead, I’m troubled – as I have been for several months – by the TV commercial for Tesco’s prepay mobile phone tariff.
