John Browett, who’d been CEO of Dixons Retail since joining from Tesco in 2007, has been appointed as Apple’s new senior vice president of Retail. He’ll report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook. Dixons Retail is responsible for the Currys and PC World brands in the UK.

Tim Cook said “Our retail stores are all about customer service, and John shares that commitment like no one else we’ve met. We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring his incredible retail experience to Apple.”

Mr Browett, who fills the role vacated when Ron Johnson left to become CEO of clothing retailer JC Penney last summer, will be responsible for Apple’s retail strategy and the expansion of Apple retail stores around the world.
