Intel and 50 Cent's SMS Audio are working on smartphone headphones that can monitor your pulse

SMS Audio, the audio brand co-founded by Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson, is working with Intel Corporation on a headphone system that’ll incorporate biometric sensors. Its forthcoming SMS Audio BioSport In-Ear Headphones powered by Intel will include an optical heart rate monitor to collect fitness data. No additional batteries or charges are required; the headphones will be powered via a standard 3.5mm audio jack.

The SMS Audio BioSport In-Ear Headphones are IPX4 rated for moisture protection and will sync with the popular RunKeeper fitness app. Support for other apps is planned. They’ll also have an in-line microphone for hands-free calls.

This is a prime example of Intel driving innovation in wearable devices while being a forerunner in merging lifestyle and technology.”

Availability and pricing information is expected by the end of the year.
