The Nokia Research Center (NRC) in Hollywood has begun a private pilot of a research project called "the Westwood Experience". It combines a story about the village of Westwood with the mobile phone user’s physical location, augmented reality effects, live action and social interaction.

Nokia describes the Westwood Experience as a new form of “3D reality show”. The audience walks through a physical movie set with their Nokia N900 smartphones, experiencing a combination of 'real' and 'virtual' events.

Nokia Research Center Hollywood was established in November 2008 to research film, music, games, web and TV "to further strengthen Nokia's leadership position in the convergence of internet and mobility".
