Israeli telecoms company Accel Telecom has launched what it’s described as the ‘first standalone connected car smartphone’ at Mobile World Congress. The company’s VOYAGER device can be installed in any car and requires its own SIM card, enabling it to be used with an existing phone number on networks that offer ‘multi-SIM’ working.

Voyager is an Android-powered ‘car phone’ that offers voice activated hands-free calling, large physical keys and a dedicated button to launch the Waze navigation service. It can also be used as a 3G WiFi hotspot for other mobile devices and offers a connection to the car’s on-board diagnostics.

Marc Seelenfreund, Accel’s CEO, said “Our user-friendly, cost effective and secure Carfone devices have seen substantial market success. We expect strong demand for the new generation VOYAGER Connected Car Smartphone device in both European and US markets in line with recent industry reports and our own research with industry influencers.”
