LG quarterly results reveal record Q3 smartphone sales

LG Electronics has published its unaudited figures for the third quarter of 2014, with revenue up 7.4% year-on-year to KRW 14.92 trillion (£8.83 billion) and operating profit more than doubling to KRW 461.3 billion (£273.04million).

It says this reflects strong performance from its mobile business. which hit a new record for smartphone sales in the third quarter.

The LG Mobile Communications Company shipped 16.8 million smartphones in the third quarter, up 39% year-on-year and up 16% from the previous quarter. This helped the business unit to achieve sales of KRW 4.25 trillion (£2.52 billion) and operating income of KRW 167.4 billion (£99.15 million), which are the highest since the third quarter of 2009.
